A Fully Accessible Airport

At SAT, we’re committed to making the travel experience as easy and safe as possible for all of our passengers. The airport is designed for maximum accessibility, mobility, comfort, and convenience for those traveling with infants and small children, the elderly, and others with special needs.

We follow ADA requirements and provide facilities including, automatic doors, crosswalks, curb cuts, ramped access, level flooring, entrances, and elevators designed to help everyone move through the facility safely and efficiently. Braille buttons are located in elevators and outside all doors/emergency exits. Airline ticket counters, point-of-sale counters, restrooms, drinking fountains, ATMs, and public seating areas are accessible.

Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make your experience at SAT more comfortable.

Parking

Accessible Parking

Designated parking areas for drivers of vehicles displaying proper identification are available. There are ample disabled parking spaces in the Long Term and Short Term garages. There are courtesy phones in the Long Term Parking Garage should patrons need assistance.

Ground Transportation

Accessible Transportation

Travelers who will need ground transportation in wheelchair accessible vehicles from the Airport should make arrangements in advance of their arrival. The following Taxi Cab companies offer ADA services.

Wheelchair Assistance

Your Airline will provide wheelchair assistance when needed. Please contact your airline to schedule assistance at no charge. To request wheelchair assistance after hours or for immediate needs call 210.207.3433. Courtesy phones are located throughout the terminal for your convenience.

Service Animals

Service animals are allowed in the terminal when accompanying their owners. There is a designated service animal relief area located in each terminal. The area in Terminal B is located adjacent to the West exit at the Baggage Claim level, near the Ground Transportation Center. Relief areas are also designated post security in both terminals.

Restrooms

Family restrooms are located in Terminal A & B. Each family restroom has changing stations* and seating for adults and children.

  • In Terminal A, locations are on Level 1, across from the Baggage Claim area and on Level 2 adjacent to Gate 12.
  • In Terminal B, the family restrooms are located in the Baggage Claim area, by the USO office, and in the gate concourse between Gate B3-B5.
  • In Terminal B, the only adult changing station is located by gate B3.

Other men’s and women’s restrooms have three levels of accessible stalls: one with a sink and toilet, one that accommodates a wheelchair, and one equipped with side rails for assistance in sitting and standing.

Lactation Rooms

A lactation room is located in the Terminal A ticket lobby near the restrooms or post security at Gate A-16, and also in the Terminal B food court.

Aira

The San Antonio International Airport provides free assistance to visually impaired passengers through their cellular phone or mobile device and the use of the Aira App.

Aira is a service that connects blind and low-vision people to highly trained, remotely-located agents. Through an app on your smartphone, Aira delivers instant access to visual information at the touch of a button – enhancing everyday efficiency, engagement, and independence.  Aira is also a useful tool in enabling passengers to maneuver throughout the airport with social distancing parameters in place.

A subscription to the Aira service is not required when at the San Antonio International Airport – your access is provided to you free-of-charge.

For more information about this free service or to view an informational video, visit the Aira website or call 1.800.835.1934.

TTY Phones

The Airport is equipped with TTY phones located in the Terminal A ticket counter lobby and gate concourse, and Terminal B concourse walkway. All telephones have heightened transmission capabilities for the hearing impaired.

Baggage Claim

The Airport Terminal Building is equipped with baggage belt start-up alarms and flashing light.

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program

San Antonio International Airport is a proud partner of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower initiative to support people with non-visible disabilities to get the support they need. These can be physical, visual, auditory or neurological and range from autism and ADHD to cognitive impairments such as learning difficulties and dementia, as well as mental health conditions. They can also be respiratory and chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, chronic pain and sleep disorders.

This means airport passengers with hidden disabilities can choose to wear a lanyard bearing a sunflower logo to discreetly indicate they may require additional assistance from employees, such as extra time needed at check-in or security, escorting to gates or assistance with reading signage or other airport procedures.

Receive a Free Sunflower Lanyard

No documentation is required for those requesting a Sunflower Lanyard. Program participation is voluntary, and passengers do not need to disclose the nature of their disability. To request a lanyard, do one of the following:

  • Submit a request form below
  • Send an email to [email protected]
  • Stop at any SAT Airport Information Desk
  • Call (210) 207-3812
